Help – for Photo (display) Options

Seven option selections for seeing 2008 Christmas Party photos are provided – each has its own ‘link’ – numbered 1 through 7.  Example is below.

Simplest Summary:  If you connect to the WEB with a phone line (or other slow connection), there is now an effective way for you to see all photos.

Simple Summary:  Slow connection? --- options ‘1’, ‘3’ and ‘5’ (seen above) are an effective way for you to see all photos.

Summary for the typical viewer:  If you have a fairly high speed network connection and a classic monitor, you may want to read no more – just use options 2, 4, and 6.

The selection options offer one of three different methods of display:

i)     mini’ versions   - ‘mini’ in that 3 photos go side by side – thus file size is ‘mini’ and better for slow network

ii)    full sized’ versions   – designed to take good advantage of ‘classic’ monitor width = 1024 pixels

iii)   ‘auto-scaling’ to fit ‘modern’ monitors  - allows for slideshow viewing or selective viewing (with saving allowed)

Each method provides some usage guidance when it starts – please read it.

The fact is that all three methods have advantages and disadvantages.  I enjoy each method.  Please experiment and make your own judgments.

BEWARE - if you use a standard phone line to connect or your neighborhood’s ‘high speed’ network has an overload and is not very fast then option ‘7’ (method iii) may fail!

That’s the bad news.  Good news – ‘7’ provides rarely seen advantages for a large, high resolution monitor (when supported by a high speed network).

Option ‘7’ uses Google’s “Picasa Web Albums”.  I think it is VERY NICE! As used for this application, only links that provide the password actually allow seeing the photos.  Usage hints: 1) Experiment!  2) If you click a thumbnail, the photos opens and you may use arrows to go forward and backwards.  You may also save a high quality copy. 3) You will see an option for a ‘Slideshow’.  When it is used, if you move the mouse, a control feature appears at the bottom of the screen that allows pausing and increasing (+) and decreasing (-) display time and exiting the slideshow.

I very much prefer to also put the browser in full screen mode – normally a menu option --- and also done, in Windows Internet Explorer and Firefox, with FunctionKey 11 (an On/Off toggle).
